History of the Instrument
Johannes Siegfried Finkel was born in Markneukirchen in 1947, representing the fourth generation of bowmakers in the Finkel-Weidhaas family. His grandfather was Paul Weidhaas, a pupil of Eugene Sartory in Paris.
At the age of 17, he began an apprenticeship in bow-making under his father, Siegfried Finkel, who had moved from Markneukirchen to Switzerland in 1952. After completing his three-year apprenticeship, he relocated to London to work for J & A Beare. Finkel also gained experience with William Moening in Philadelphia and Hans Weisshaar in Los Angeles before returning to Switzerland in 1975. He assumed leadership over his father’s workshop in 1984 and trained Werner Ernst, Marcus Fischer and J.M. Lüthi. He is retired today, and the Workshop is now run by his daughter, Daniela.
This exquisitely preserved bow is in absolutely mint condition and is of the highest caliber available by this maker.
