History of the Instrument
Christophe Schaeffer, born in 1958 is a distinguished French bowmaker, having played the violin since the age of 11, he joined the prestigious school of bow making in Mirecourt, France and studied bow making there under Bernard Ouchard from 1974 to 1977.
From 1977 to 2020 he was the resident bow maker in the shop of Philippe Dupuy, the grandson of Eugène Sartory. Schaeffer owns a stock of Sartory’s wood, which he continues to make bows from at his workshop in Avignon, France.
