History of the Instrument

Giovanni Colonna is a Cremonese luthier who graduated from the Antonio Stradivari School of Lutherie in 2000 under the guidance of Maestro Vincenzo Bissolotti. His dedication to precision and wood selection led him to establish a company in 2006 specializing in sourcing materials for instrument making. Since 2004, his workshop in Corso Matteotti, Cremona, has been a reference point for musicians worldwide. In addition to crafting unique, custom-made instruments, he offers restoration and acoustic setup services. Through collaborations with experts in antique instruments and collectors, he has refined his pursuit of acoustic excellence. In 2014, he founded Academia Cremonensis, an institution dedicated to preserving and evolving the Cremonese lutherie tradition with a global perspective, where he continues to serve as President. Over the years, many of his students at Academia Cremonensis have become renowned violin makers and have won prestigious prizes at international competitions. He is also the President of the Waldorf School of Cremona, as he strongly values the Steiner-Waldorf educational approach. Deeply committed to supporting younger generations, he actively engages in social projects focused on education.
